Twelve-year-old Me

There was a time in my life when I wished the days away. From the moment I opened my eyes, I could not wait to close them again. I comforted myself by thinking, if I can get through the day, tomorrow will be better.

Why would I lie to myself like that? If nothing changed today, why would tomorrow be any different? I see it in others as well. We spend days just wishing our lives away. I don't want that anymore. Do you?

The big question is: how do we change that? We can’t quit our jobs - earning an income is kind of important. Most people don't have savings to fall back on. So, how do we wake up in the morning and not wish the day away?

New hobbies are great, but learning new skills can be quite time-consuming and demotivating if you have to add another thing to your to-do list. And we are all running a little low on fuel (Wink-wink. Here’s looking at you, Hormuz).

My solution would be to go on mini-adventures. It can start with something as small as buying a coffee you normally wouldn’t. Find something small to look forward to every day. Create small side quests that make you smile. Most importantly, go for walks…

Enjoy making fun of yourself, tell silly jokes, and remember what it was like to be twelve years old!

The overemphasis on the seriousness of life drains us. Our perspective need some rebalancing and rediscovering the wonderful in the small is one way we can do this.

Ask yourself: What would twelve-year-old me enjoy about the minuteness of everyday life? Do that!

One could even say it helps us to ‘live in the moment’. ;)

Our childlike view of the small things carry more power than we realise.
